Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 kg minced beef (about 2.2 lbs)
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 400g tin chopped tomatoes (about 14 oz)
  • 150ml tomato ketchup (about 5 fl oz)
  • 60ml Worcestershire sauce (about 2 fl oz)
  • 30ml yellow mustard (about 1 fl oz)
  • 30ml brown sugar (about 1 fl oz)
  • 15ml cider vinegar (about 0.5 fl oz)
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 6-8 burger buns, for serving

Instructions

  • In a large frying pan or skillet, brown the minced beef over medium-high heat. Break it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain off any excess fat.
  • Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the pan and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  • Transfer the browned beef and vegetables to your slow cooker. Add the chopped tomatoes, tomato ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, brown sugar, cider vinegar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Stir everything together well. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
  • Once cooked, use two forks to shred the beef in the slow cooker. Give it a good stir to ensure everything is evenly coated in the sauce. Serve hot on burger buns.
